Greenville, city, seat (1809) of Darke county, western Ohio, U.S., on Greenville Creek, about 35 miles (55 km) northwest of Dayton. Laid out in 1808, it was the site of Fort Greene Ville, named for Gen. Nathanael Greene and built by Gen. 'Mad' Anthony Wayne (1793).
